I had the pleasure of covering multiple football state championship games over the two years I was at the Item, and this link leads to the article I wrote after one of the county teams, Poplarville, lost in the 4A state championship. The article is not only an example of my ability to write detailed, thorough gamers, but also shows the level of sports I was used to covering. Numerous teams in different sports made the playoffs during my time as the sports reporter at the Item, which included opportunities like this where I could cover a football state championship game.

While the sports world was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to find other ways to provide new and interesting stories for our readers. This led to me writing numerous feature articles, including one on a local athlete who used football to earn a scholarship and play at the collegiate level. The article is more focused on the athlete's journey than the sport itself, and shows my diverse repertoire when it comes to writing articles.
